Matt Martin

WHY MMA?

I started training martial arts in 2002. The connection was instant and clear. Soon after I began training I had an urge to compete and so my real MMA journey began.

WHAT EXPERIENCES HAVE MADE YOU THE MARTIAL ARTIST AND COACH YOU ARE TODAY?

After traveling throughout the country to compete in grappling tournaments I had my first MMA fight in 2004. I wanted to take my training to the next level so, in January of 2007 the month opened , I started training with Tom Hafers at USMMA. Since then I have had a total of 10 professional MMA fights, earned my no-gi black belt, and now I am the head coach of the USMMA competition team. Moving forward I plan to continue teaching Jiu Jitsu at USMMA and help further develop the USMMA fight team.

WHAT CAN A STUDENT EXPECT IN YOUR CLASS?

We take the pretentiousness of a typical BJJ class and toss it out the window. In my class expect to learn practical techniques that will help you effectively compete in combat sports or defend yourself. We focus on how grappling translates into MMA. Expect many leg locks too.

OFF THE MAT...

I am a modern day renaissance man. I enjoy studying different fighting techniques to help me be the best coach i can be. Not only am I a high level martial artist with and impressive professional record, I am a high level dog breeder, show exhibitor, show judge, and just a complete jack of all trades. There are few things I can't do.
